State Bike Warhawk Gravel

State Bicycle Review (And Coupons)

State Bicycle Co. was founded by three cycling addicts from Arizona in 2009 with the aim of producing good quality fixed gear bikes at an affordable price. The general aesthetic of their products is minimalist with a slight racing look, and although most of their bikes are single speed, their City range does come with a choice of one or three speeds.

The other great thing about State is that they release their bikes in limited runs, so once they are gone, they are gone. But this means that they are always tweaking and innovating, so whenever you buy, you are getting the best quality product.

State Bicycle Co. Track Bikes

Road bikes are designed to eat up the pavement, giving you the fastest and smoothest ride on city roads. But these single-gear road bikes from State are also designed to offer a high-quality track ride when you are feeling more adventurous. They should be all the bike you need from your Monday commute to your Saturday adventures.

State Bicycle 6061 Black Label

Named for its ultra-lightweight aluminum frame, the State Bicycle Black Label gives a good ride both on road and track. The frame is incredibly light for speed, and the drivetrain feels tight, do you feel like you are getting the most speed out of every push. The handlebars and saddle have been very well designed for comfort in a variety of conditions.

If you are thinking about upgrading anything, it will probably be the tires. A good ride out of the box, some new tires could transform it into something magnificent. This is a natural progression from an entry-level fixed gear bike if you are looking to get a bit more out of your riding. There is a great range of colors to choose from, but sadly does not come with a water bottle cage – why? Who knows?

State Fixies

You could be forgiven for wondering what differentiates a fixed gear road bike from a fixie. The difference is that track bikes really are optimized for riding in a velodrome and therefore offer a very sensitive ride. A standard fixie is more for the street. Also, generally fixies come with a flip-flop hub with a freewheel, so riders can decide whether they want to ride fixed gear or single speed.

State Bikes 4130 Core-Line

The State 4130 Core-Line probably offers one of the smoothest and fastest rides that you can expect from a fixie for under $1,000, and it costs about half that. It is one of the most popular bikes that they sell, not just because of the price tag. It is also highly customizable, so you can have your bike the way you like it. The double-butted 4130 Chromoly steel frame is incredibly durable while being incredibly light, while managing to absorb bumps on the road.

State Bicycle Co. $299 Core-Line

If you are looking for something a bit cheaper, then the cheaper State Core Line @$299 is a good option. It uses all the excellent design features that we see with the standard Core-Line, but with slightly lower-quality material to keep the price down. This is ideal for casual riders who do not need an ultra-performance bike, and for anyone who can’t leave a pricier bike outside their workplace.

State Bikes Gravel/Cyclocross

This is a beefier bike than the track of the fixie, giving you everything you need to take on treacherous CX courses and nasty gravel terrain on the weekends, but is still viable to use for your weekly commute.

State Bicycle Warhawk Gravel/CX Bike

If you are looking for something at the lower end of the price scale, then the Warhawk is a great choice. The design is attractive but low fuss and works well as a stripped down racer. You will find that you are taking a lot of speed into corners, but get excellent traction in dry conditions from the Kenda Small Block 8 tires. The good quality Cantilever breaks and strong 4130 Chromoly steel frame means that it also won’t rattle you on poorly maintained city streets.

State City Bikes

While State specialize in fixed gear bikes that work both for the commute and the more adventurous ride, they also have a more stylish City range for those looking for something cool for easy riding around town. The range blends modern utility with the old-world sophistication of Dutch style likes.

State’s top-rated City bike is the Rylee. You can choose between one and three speeds, and it comes with Mustache handlebars, Coaster breaks for easy stopping and gum-wall tires. These features are standard across their City bike range. Their next most popular seller is the Keansburg Deluxe, which is upgraded with matching rear pannier rack, front porteur and bell.
